Roberta Lynn Hartwell

Roberta Lynn Smith Hartwell, age 66, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at her residence with her loving family at her side.  The daughter of the late Robert and Savannah Grindstaff Smith, she was born in Michell County, North Carolina on April 20, 1952. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Andrew Hartwell; one sister, Angie Thomas; and one son-in-law, James Roland.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Roberta enjoyed crafts, especially quilting and arranging flowers. 

She will be greatly missed by her five children, Joanna Roland, Rachael H. Butler (Ronnie), Joey Hartwell (Kim), Joshua Vaughan (Betty Ann) and Sam Vaughan; former son-in-law, Tommy Mills; one sister, Shirley Vaughan (Danny); and two brothers, Robert Smith, Jr. (Sandra) and Ricky Smith (Susan).  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jacob Hartwell (Allie), Brittany Trinks (Caleb), Melissa Roland and Joseph Roland; two great grandchildren, Raylee Trinks and Imiere Hartwell; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bonnie Autrey and Karen Greene. 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Cy Miller officiating.  Interment will follow at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory in Marion.
