Robert L. Mann

Robert L. Mann, age 75, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at his residence with his loving family by his side.  A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born on October 24, 1945, Robert was the son of the late Elmer and Effie Ellison Mann. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Mann; and one sister, Geneva Mann. 

A loving and amazing husband, father, grandfather and brother, Robert was known for helping those in need and in fact, in his later years he enjoyed cutting wood for others.  A member of the McDowell County R.E.A.C.T, Robert loved listening to gospel music and sang with the “Gospel Travelers”. An avid birdwatcher, he loved his canine companion, Harlee, but most of all, he loved his family and friends.  Following 26 years of dedicated service, Robert retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections Marion Minimum Security Unit.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Faye Buckner Mann; two sons, Robert Eugene Mann (Vickie) and James Michael Biddix (Sheila); and two daughters, Angela Metcalf (Mark) and Susan Mitchell (Colin); two sisters, Ilene Bartlett and Brenda Turvin; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. 

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Jimmy Upton and Rev. Rick Wood officiating.  Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and funeral honors provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety-Adult Corrections.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to CarePartners Hospice & Palliative Care-McDowell; and nurses Tonya Harris, Samantha Kaylor, Brittney Allison and Vickie Mann for the extraordinary care they provided Robert and his family during Robert’s final days.
