Richard Andrew Ledford

Richard Andrew Ledford, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 following a brief illness surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Old Fort.  The son of the late Charlie and Bertha Burnette Ledford, Richard was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on January 01, 1942.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Judy Grogan Ledford, who passed away in May 2015; three sisters, Annie Belle Shelton, Ethel Lytle and Jewel Willis; and four brothers, Phillip, Cecil, Benjamin and Vernon Ledford.

A true Carolina Tar Heel fan, Richard enjoyed working in his garden and taking time to go fishing with his fishing buddies, Roger and Tim.  He loved his family and late wife, Judy, more than anything.

Richard is survived by one daughter, Annette Hooser (Earl) of Marion; one son, David Ledford (Lori) of Old Fort; two brothers, Wade Ledford of Arden and Carl Ledford (Peggy) of Lake Lure; and one sister, Linda Reed of Old Fort.  He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jessica, Tyler, Dakota, David Scott and Jamie; four great grandchildren, Madison, Allison, Jasmine and Eli; a number of nieces and nephews; additional family members, including Louis Hooser; and his special fur companion, Benji. 

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Rev. James Walker and Brother Johnny Hall officiating.  Interment will follow at Cherry Springs Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
