Rex Dwane Reel, age 53, of Marion, North Carolina went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Reel was born April 23, 1963 in McDowell County to Roland Reel and the late Grace Reel.
Rex was a faithful member of Going Home Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He loved being outdoors hunting and fishing. Rex enjoyed telling jokes and laughing and was known as a gentle giant. He was a family man who loved his wife, two daughters and sons-in-laws, but above all he loved his Lord.
In addition to his father, he leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of thirty-two years, Cathy Barnes Reel; two daughters, Jessica Reel Jolly (Adam) and Christie Reel Anderson (Joey); one brother, Darrell Reel (Sherry). Also, surviving is a number of nieces, nephews and step-mother Lula Reel.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 20, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. A celebration to honor Rex’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Going Home Free Will Baptist Church with Reverends Jeff Duncan, Jeff Silver and Rick Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
