Rex Edward Johnson, age 71, of Marion, North Carolina passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, Rex was born on November 3, 1947 to the late Ed and Mildred Woody Johnson.
Rex was a United States Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He was an avid photographer who loved to photograph nature. Rex loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband and will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Margaret McKinney Johnson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Danny and Elizabeth Ledford of Morganton; one nephew, Christopher Edward McKinney (Andrea) of Spruce Pine; one uncle, Franklin Woody of Burnsville and a number of cousins.
A funeral service to celebrate Rex’s life will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Beam Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors provided by the United States Army will take place following the service at Spruce Pine City Cemetery.
