Rev. Stephen W. Greene

On the afternoon of Thursday, December 28, 2017 while surrounded by his loving family, Rev. Stephen W. Greene, age 71, of the Pleasant Gardens community, went home to be with the Lord at St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville.   Born in McDowell County on September 4, 1946, he was the son of Ruby Greene and the late Paul M. Greene.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Nadine Greene.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Rev. Greene was a proud Evangelist who had travelled all over the east coast preaching and pastored many churches throughout North Carolina.  For over 8 years he had served with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office; and in his spare time, he loved to fish and play golf, but most of all, spending time with his family and his canine friends.

Left to cherish his memories, in addition to his mother, his loving wife of 52 years, Myrna L. Greene; three sons, Chris Greene (Chrystal), Joseph M. “Josè” Greene (Lisa); and Chad “Snapper” Greene (Maria); and one brother, Jerry A. Greene (Faye).  He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Megan Walker (Tyler), Diamond Hill (Gladden), Kayla Tanner (David), Ambrelyn Tanner (Tony), Gavin Greene, Dylan Greene, Micah Greene, Nicolas Greene, Megan Garmon (Tom), Brittany Johnson and Taylor Duncan; eleven great-grandchildren, Jace, Alex, Cole, Luke, Graham, Jailyn, Joshua, Hannah, Tatum, Braxton and Sawyer.

A celebration of Rev. Greene’s life will be held on Monday, January 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. John Devine, Rev. Tim Connor and Rev. Michael Smith officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

A private interment will be held at Estatoe Church of God Cemetery in Mitchell County.
