Rev. Richard A. Stanley, Jr., 80, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born in Washington D.C. on October 17, 1941 to the late Richard A. Stanley, Sr. and Myrtle Musgrove Stanley. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia “Shannon” Woodside Stanley; and a brother-in-law, Ray Holland.
Rev. Stanley served as a pastor for over 35 years. He began his ministry at Old Fort Wesleyan Church. He always put others before himself. Known as “Papa” to his family, he was loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended Vess family.
He is survived by two sons, Richard A. Stanley, III and Wesley Stanley (Sonya); five grandchildren, R.J. Stanley, Nate Stanley, Amber Stanley, Tiffany Bowers, and Danielle Kelly (Kyle); one sister, Patricia Holland; and a niece, Lori Ramsey (Eric) and their children, Jonathon and David.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Old Fort Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Donnie Massingill officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Old Fort.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills at 374 Hudlow Road, Forest City, North Carolina 28043.
