Rev. Johnny Douglas Johnson, age 77, a beloved figure and steadfast soldier of the faith, entered eternal rest on October 9, 2024, at The McDowell Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born January 19, 1947, Rev. Johnson dedicated his life to serving others through his ministry and many community engagements.

He began his ministry in 1970 when he accepted his first pastoral position at the Sunny Vale Baptist Church. His devotion and commitment led him to Ashworth Road Baptist Church, where he served with distinction for an admirable 32 years, touching countless lives through his teachings and compassion.

Beyond his spiritual guidance, Rev. Johnson was also deeply committed to his community. He was a former member of the McDowell County Rescue Squad and served as Assistant Chief of the Woodlawn Fire Department, showcasing his desire to help others in all aspects of life. However, his proudest accomplishments were his familial bonds, especially his love for his grandsons, who brought him immense joy and pride.

In his leisure time, Rev. Johnson enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding the parkway, embracing the beauty of nature and sharing these moments with those he cherished.

Rev. Johnson is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Mildred Bartlett Johnson; his sons, Johnny Michael Johnson and wife Donna, William Douglas Johnson and wife Teresa; his grandson, Quinton Nathaniel Johnson; and his grandson, Corban Hunter Johnson, and fiancé Natalie Walhof. He was preceded in death by his father, Oyer Harold Johnson, and his mother, Eula Crawford Johnson.

A visitation will be held on October 12, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, both taking place at Beam Celebration Center in Marion, North Carolina.
