On the afternoon of Sunday, October 02, 2016, doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle, Raymond William Simcox, age 50, of the Glenwood Community, went home to be with the Lord. Born in Richmond, Virginia on December 03, 1965, he was the son of the late Charles Simcox and Barbara Simcox of Bristol, Virginia.
Raised in Bristol, Tennessee, Raymond proudly served in the United States Army Military Police Corps from 1985 until 1996. Following service with the United States Army, he continued his career in law enforcement where he ultimately retired as a deputy with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.
A loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Raymond was a member of Carolina Faith Riders Motorcycle Ministry (Bethel Baptist Church) and Blue Knights NC XXIII Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and many other capacities.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by one sister, Angie Simcox; and one nephew, Donald Simcox, Jr.
Raymond is survived by, in addition to his mother, his loving wife of 32 years, Donna Simcox, who was his high school sweetheart; one son, Kevin Simcox and his fiancée, Holly Howard of Marion; one daughter, Nicole Moore and husband Alex of Marion; one god-daughter, Devon Parker of Marion; three grandchildren, Abel Moore, Teagan Parker and Madeline Moore; all of Marion; one brother, Donald Simcox and wife Pat of Bristol, Tennessee; two sisters, Pam Linnen and husband Richard of Kingsport, Tennessee; and Charlotte Locke and husband Mickey of Bluff City, Tennessee. He is also survived by several special nieces and nephews, who he loved very much.
A service to honor the life of Raymond will be held on Saturday, October 08, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 305 Bethel Church Road, Marion, North Carolina, with Rev. Jimmy Upton officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the United States Army, along with honors provided by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office’s Honor Guard, will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, two hours prior to the service, at the church.
