Raymond "Pete" Platt, II

January 8, 1963 — March 31, 2025

Old Fort

Raymond “Pete” Platt, II, 62, of Old Fort, went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, March 31, 2025 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

He was born in Tampa, Florida on January 8, 1963 to the late Raymond Edward Platt and Amanda Evelyn O’Leary Platt. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Vickie White, and one brother, Kenny Platt.

A devoted follower of the Lord and a loving family man, Pete's life was characterized by his unwavering faith and commitment to those he cherished.

In 2014, Pete was called to serve as a lay minister, a role that allowed him to share his faith and serve his community. He was actively involved in several prison ministries as well as the Hebron Colony, an addiction ministry in Boone, NC, where he dedicated himself to helping others find hope and healing. His compassionate spirit extended to residents at The Foley Center, a nursing home in Blowing Rock, where he preached and offered support to those in need. He would often say, “Jesus loved me from the beginning, but my life didn’t change until I fell in love with him.” His life was about serving others.

Throughout his years, Pete found joy in the beauty of the outdoors, embracing activities such as hiking, photography, and motorcycle riding. His adventurous spirit and passion for traveling brought him to numerous destinations, where he often took the opportunity to connect with nature and create lasting memories. Additionally, he had a talent for building things, showcasing his creativity and dedication to craftsmanship. Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his family. While outdoors, the Lord revealed heart-shaped rocks as affirmation of his faith and love for Him and toward his wife Donna.

He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Donna Rice Platt; six children, Raymond “P.J.” Platt, III, Joshua Platt (Stephanie), Brooke Clark (Luke), Tonya Edwards (Stacy), Randy Hollifield (Shelly), and Travis Hollifield (Marley); sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Tajuana Iris Cejka (Mike), Renda Owens (Craig), and Jackie Barnes (Wesley); a number of nieces and nephews; and his German Shepherd and best buddy, Samson.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. in the Beam Celebration Center. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Lenny Rogers and Rev. Jeff Steinel officiating. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service.
