Ray Anthony Rutherford

Ray Anthony “Tony” Rutherford, age 57, of Morganton, North Carolina, passed away Monday, August 09, 2021 at his residence.

He was born in McDowell County on February 01, 1964 to Joann Rutherford and the late Franklin Rutherford.

Ray, who was a member of St. John AME Church, was affectionately known as “Tony” or “Ray Ray” to many. He was an avid NASCAR fan. Ray had many friends, and he had a true servant’s heart. He loved to mow grass for neighbors and doing anything he could to help the elderly.

Ray was a friendly, outgoing man who never met a stranger. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it and never had a harsh word to say. He was very talented when it came to tinkering on small engines.

In addition to his mother, Joann Rutherford, Ray is survived by his girlfriend, Debbie Chacon; one sister Joycelyn Rutherford; two brothers, Thomas Rutherford and David Rutherford; several nieces and nephews; and his special canine companion, Chestnut.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Latisha Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
