Randy Reginald Vess, 53, of Lake Lure, North Carolina, unexpectedly departed this life on Thursday, December 09, 2021.
He was born in Henderson County on June 17, 1968 to Reginald “Reggie” Curtis Vess and Guynell Wright Vess.
Randy served as a firefighter for over 30 years, mainly with the Bills Creek Fire Department. At one time, he was the assistant chief, and he also served as the president of the Rutherford County Fire Association, as an EMT, and with the U.S. Forest Service. Randy had a big heart and just simply loved life. He worked as a logger most of his life, and he also loved fishing and hunting. Randy was also a NASCAR fan who loved Dale Earnhardt. He raced himself at Antioch Racetrack and Green Hill Racetrack.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Theodore and Lula Wright; and his paternal grandmother, Frances Parker.
In addition to his parents, Reggie and Guynell Vess, he is survived by his two sisters, Regina Smith (Robby), their son Bryan (Amanda) and their children, Jackson and Lina, and Gloria Duncan (Richard) and their children, Cara (William), Mackenzie (Will), Katie, and Rose.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bills Creek Fire Department Station 1. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Cedar Creek Holiness Church Cemetery.
