Peggy Griggs Silvers, age 78, wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend to all, entered eternal life on March 29, 2017 in Asheville, North Carolina. She was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma and fought it with everything she had for almost a year. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her difficult final months.
Mrs. Silvers was born January 7, 1939 to the late Frank and Edith Griggs of Old Fort, North Carolina. She married the love of her life, Harold Hicks Silvers, an Army soldier in 1955 who preceded her in death after 52 years of marriage. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of those who survive her: her sister, Sherron Ricketts and husband David, her daughter, Crystal Evans Allen, four grandchildren, Danielle Yelton and husband William, Harley Hodge and husband, Jovon, Daphne Evans and Cory Silvers, as well as four greatgrandchildren, Lily and Lexie Yelton and William and Camilla Hodge.
Mrs. Silvers lived life to the fullest and her hands were rarely still. She had so many passions, including genealogy, traveling, writing, and working at the Gateway museum. She could not believe she found a dream job in her seventies. She had a deep love for flowers, was a talented seamstress, and a published author; but somehow still had time to be committed to family and friends. Mrs. Silvers loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.
She was known for her feisty good nature and caring heart and will undoubtedly be missed by all who loved and knew her. She always stood by us through good and bad times, no matter what and we will never forget her special smile.
Family and friends will gather between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on April 2, 2017 followed by a celebration of her life at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Buchanan officiating at Beam Funeral Home in Marion.
The family requests live outdoor plants that can be ordered from Marion Floral, 42 Crawford Street, Marion, North Carolina (828) 652-0252, that will later be planted in Peggy’s name.
