Paul Edward Messer, 78, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Mission Hospital McDowell.
He was born on April 15, 1944 to the late Grady Messer and Lula Davis Messer.
Mr. Messer was a retired veteran of the United States Army. He served for over 21 years and earned the rank of sergeant. Paul was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. His church meant the world to him. His love for his family was unsurpassed, especially for his daughters. Paul will be remembered as being loving, gentle, and kind. He liked cutting up, eating out, and being outside on his tractor.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Messer; and his siblings, James Messer, Ollie Arrowood, and Dean Messer.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Messer Andrews (Michael) and Tonya Messer Johnson (David); four grandchildren, Ciara Buchanan, Dakota Eck, Tyler Messer, and Brady Messer; and seven great grandchildren, Cheyanna, Karli, Logan, Bentley, Harlow, Harper, and Maisie.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastors Marvin Riddle and Randy Arrowood officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park with full military honors.
