Patsy Lou Hensley

Patsy Lou Patterson Hensley, age 75, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at her daughter’s residence. Born on May 5, 1941 in Kannapolis, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Patterson and Rebecca Throneburg Patterson.

Ms. Hensley retired from McDowell High School as administrative assistant after 30 years of service. During her service to the school, she also served as a cheerleading coach, oversaw ticket sales for all the sporting events and chaperoned many an out of town school trip. She enjoyed traveling with her lady friends, working in the garden and making ceramics in her spare time.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Hensley was preceded in death by her two sisters, Kathryn Klutz and Hilda Eldridge.

A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 5:00PM at First Baptist Church of Marion, with Rev. Robert Vance officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at the church.

Ms. Hensley is survived by two daughters, Velvet Hensley and husband Vernon of Marion, Rebecca McGowan and husband Patrick of Collegeville, Pennsylvania and a son, Charles Hensley II and wife Nateara of Marion; five grandchildren, Zachery Hensley, Elijah Hensley, Katie McGowan,Andrew McGowan, and Hayden Hensley; one great-grandchild, Aidan Hensley; nieces, Sharyn Kluttz and Dana Pennington and a nephew, Eddie Patterson.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice of McDowell County for their loving care and support during Ms. Hensley illness.
