Patricia Ann Gilliam Waycaster, age 76, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Memorial Mission Hospital. Born in McDowell County on July 17, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Howard Gilliam and Viola Rosebud Gilliam.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William L. Gilliam (Cotton) and James T. Gilliam (Jake).
Mrs. Waycaster is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, George Robert Waycaster; two daughters, Lynn White (Brian) and Gwendolyn “Gigi” Waycaster; two sisters, Betty Gilliam O’Keefe, and Kathleen Ragan (Ed); three brothers, Aaron Monroe “Boe” Gilliam, David Gilliam and Gary Michael “Mickey” Gilliam (Helen) and two grandchildren, Brian “BK” White (Tricia) and Jessica White.
Mrs. Waycaster was a member of Cherry Springs Baptist Church and was formally employed in Washington D.C. with the Department of Defense for 25 years and was later self-employed as a real estate broker. Affectionately known as “Toad”, Mrs. Waycaster will be remembered for her great sense of humor, warm heart and desire to always help another in need. Mrs. Waycaster loved the beach, bird watching, Cedar Creek, but her greatest love was her family.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 4:00PM at Cherry Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Marty Conner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM prior to the funeral hour.
