Patricia Powell, 88 years old, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Aston Park Healthcare Center. She was born on September 25, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, VA.
This beautiful angel on earth, lovingly known as “Trick” by her younger sister, Gladys, and other family members, is now with her Heavenly father and reunited with parents, Ellie and Raymond Pickeral, formerly of Danville, VA. She was also preceded by brothers, James, Cecil, and Billy. Surviving is a sister, Gladys Henson (Jim) of Mt. Airy, NC. She lived like a true angel on earth, and she was the heart of her home, cooking, sewing, painting, cultivating flower beds, washing windows until they sparkled, etc. She and Harry traveled after he retired, visiting all 50 US States, and every Canadian Province.
Her sincere kindness and compassion to those she came in contact with was like no other. She loved the Lord and became a Christian as a teen.
Her greatest life’s achievement was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her unconditional outpouring of love made a lasting impact on all those in her life.
Patricia graduated from Whitmel Farm Life School (Whitmel, VA) in 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Harry, the same year.
She worked some as a retail clerk in a downtown dime store in Danville, VA and won a blue ribbon in the county fair for making a pair of pajamas. She later worked in Danville, VA as a secretary of a savings and loan, and with Dan River Mills. In Asheville, she was a church secretary of Oak Forest Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of Asheville’s Women’s Aglow and volunteered at Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM). She and Harry are current members of Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler, NC and former members of New Morgan Hill Baptist and Asheville Pentecostal Holiness where she taught Sunday School and helped keep the church and grounds neat and clean.
