Patricia "Patty" Lawing

Patricia “Patty” Burgett Lawing, age 72, of Marion, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 26, 2016 at the McDowell Hospital.  The daughter of the late Perry and Lena Burgett, she was born in Bristol, Virginia on November 21, 1944.

Patty will be remembered, not only for the love of her children and grandchildren, but for her love and care of many in her extended family, church and community.  She was a teacher’s assistant for 21 years with Burke County Schools, mostly at Forest Hill Elementary School, and is fondly remembered for her portrayal of “Suzie’ and “The Wide Mouthed Frog.”

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Monroe Lawing, who passed away in 2014; one brother, Donnie Burgett; and one sister, Florella Blevins Decker.

Left to cherish her memories are three sons, Don Lawing and wife Brenda of Marion, Robert Lawing and wife Paula of Conover; and Sam Lawing and wife Jane of Morganton; one sister, Joan Reel and husband Clinton of Marion; and six grandchildren, Meredith, Micah, Nolan, Noah, Brady and Luke.

A funeral service to honor the life of Patty will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Don Lawing officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
