Otto Merwin Gross, Jr., age 70, of Marion, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at the Charles George Medical Center. He was born in McDowell County on October 5, 1948 to the late Otto Merwin Gross, Sr. and Mary Hollifield Gross.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Amelia Ann Gross.
Merwin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marion and was a United States Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War and Korea. He was known as a very thoughtful and talented man. He had a great sense of humor, was very kind hearted, always had a story to share and a kind word to everyone he met. Merwin helped in making of several local films which included “The Last of the Mohican’s” and “Hunt for Red October.
Merwin is survived by his former spouse and best friend, Carolyn Sebra Gross; one daughter, Heather Gross Byrd; two grandchildren, Gabryiel Eben Byrd and Eden Ray Byrd and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church with Reverend Dean Owenby officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., two hours prior to the service at the church.
