Otis O. “Junior” Waddell, Jr., age 81, of Nebo, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord on the morning of Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville. Born in Polk County, North Carolina on April 17, 1937, Otis was the son of the late Otis Waddell, Sr. and Dora Poole Waddell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Polly Peace and Evelyn McFalls.
Known as being a jack of all trades, Otis enjoyed working and fixing many different things, and riding on his tractor. He also enjoyed being outdoors: gardening, cutting wood and mowing grass. It truly did his heart good to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Darlene Biggerstaff Waddell; four children, Tammy McKenzie, Sherry Carroll (Johnny), Jerry Waddell (April) and Tina Sparks; one brother, Larry Waddell (Kathy); and five sisters, Carrie McFalls, Brenda Gilbert (Gary), Ann Searcy (Milo), Deborah Bohannon (Larry) and Louise Roper (James). Otis is also survived by nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Drucilla Independent Fundamental Baptist Church in Nebo with Rev. Steven Painter officiating. Interment will follow at Drucilla Independent Fundamental Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
