Orville “Chuck” Phillips, age 78, of Ft. Meyers, Florida, entered his eternal home Monday, December 4, 2017 after several months of declining health.
Orville was born April 14, 1939 to the late Raymond and Belle McCurry Phillips of Burnsville, North Carolina. He was a retired Machinist with General Motors Auto Design of Warren, Michigan with 38 years of service. Orville was a loving and generous man who always put the needs of others before himself. He was happy when he made others happy and had a knack for bringing joy to any gathering. He loved classic cars, car shows, boating and good food. Most of all, he loved his family and friends. He was grateful for his blessings and generous to help where and when needed.
In addition to Orville’s parents, he is also preceded in death by one brother, J.B. Phillips who passed in 2007 and one infant sister, Gloria Phillips who passed in 1932.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his beloved companion, Shelia Hurst; two daughters, Lelia and Yolanda; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Phillips of Nebo, North Carolina and James Phillips (Mari) of Tipton, Michigan; two sisters, Mildred Ward of Nebo, North Carolina and Sue Taylor of Marion, North Carolina.
Orville was a delight to be in the company of and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church. A Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM at the church with Rev. Alan Sailors officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at McCurry Family Cemetery in Yancey County, North Carolina.
