Norman W. Lavender

Norman W. Lavender, age 76, of Old Fort, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at his residence.  A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born on April 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Howard and Maybelle Davis Lavender.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Norman had worked in commercial construction for more than 30 years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his garden and spending time with his family and friends.  Norman was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Gregory Lee Smith; and one brother, Nelson Larry Lavender.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Lavender; two sons, Michael Lavender and Dennis Lavender; one daughter, Linda Kay Durham (Caleb); one brother, Gerald Dean Lavender (Bulah); one sister, Madge Golen; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to honor the life of Norman will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Old Fort with Rev. Gale Wilson officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the church.
