Norman Ray Hollifield

Mr. Norman Ray Hollifield, age 85, of Marion, passed away on Saturday October 14, 2017 at his residence with his loving family by his side. A native of McDowell county, born on February 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Emma Williams and Pless Hollifield.

Mr. Hollifield, affectionately known by his coworkers as “Shag,” was known to have a green thumb. He loved gardening and yard work. Norman loved listening to Johnny Cash and playing his guitar, but above all, he loved his family more than anything.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hollifield, and son-in-law, Dean Morgan.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty nine years, Lucy Bates Hollifield, five children, Wayne Hollifield (Renee), Donna Morgan, Allen Hollifield (Amy), Dawn Brown (Jimmie) and Waylon Hollifield; Eleven Grandchildren, Brittany Cotton (Christian), Breanna Brown, Jessica Harmon (Ben), Amanda Hollifield, Callie Hollifield, Shannon Mancuso (Kelly), Shaun Morgan, Jodi Morgan, Cody Morgan (Amanda) , Sara Hollifield, Huner Hollifield; Seven Great-Grandchildren, Maxton Cotton, Mason Cotton, Zade Bizer, Adyn Bizer, Heather Moody, Kole Mancuso and Levi Morgan; Three special friends, Angel Branton, Jennie Hardy, Alvin Phillips; Two sisters also survive. The family would like to give special thanks to Darrin Helton for his loving care during this time.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hollifield will be held on Tuesday October 17, 2017 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service, with Mr. Joseph Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, two hours prior to the service in the chapel.
