Norma “Jean” Shirley Revis, 72, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Monday, February 08, 2021 at her home.
She was born in Greenville, South Carolina on February 04, 1949 to the late Joseph Robert Shirley, Jr. and Norma Eloise Taylor Shirley.
Jean was a 1967 graduate of Marion High School. She attended Western Piedmont Community College and Appalachian State University. She retired with 30 years of faithful service as secretary of the North Carolina Highway Patrol Troop G office in Marion.
Jean was a devout Christian, prayer warrior, and accomplished pianist and organist. She served in several capacities at different churches throughout McDowell County, including Sunday School Teacher and music director. She spent the last 27 years directing choirs for Bridgewater and Siloam Presbyterian Churches. She played for the North Carolina Governor in high school and played for numerous weddings and funerals throughout the area, but her favorite place to play was in church. She taught numerous children piano lessons as well. Jean was a believer in prayer chains, and she was instrumental in starting Sister Chicks for Christ in McDowell County for the last ten years. She will be remembered for saying, “If it brings one person to Christ, it was worth the effort.”
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Shirley, who passed in December 2020.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Revis; three children, Robby Revis (Tierney), Stacy Silvers (Eddie), and Tracy Revis (Kasey Canup); and five grandchildren, Jarryd Revis, Austin Bass (Tori Paige), Payne Revis, Ella Silvers, and Kolby Revis.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Revis Family Cemetery on Revis Cemetery Road at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Jacob Willis will officiate. A memorial service will be held at a later date when COVID-19 restrictions are eased.
