Nicholas "Nick" Devinney

June 28, 1929 — February 14, 2020

 

Nicholas “Nick” Devinney, age 90, of the Pleasant Gardens Community, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. A native of McDowell County, Nick was born on June 28, 1929 to the late Raymond and Essie Martin Devinney.

 

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Mable Hawkins Devinney and one sister, Joretta Devinney Ball.

 

Nick was a member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church. He retired from the Bost Bread Company following thirty years of service. He enjoyed gardening and working with his fruit trees. Nick was known to have a sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family.

 

Left to cherish his precious memories are his son Alan Devinney (Ann); one daughter, Celia Devinney Kaylor (Ron) and two brothers-in-law, John Ball and John Hawkins. Nick is also survived by four grandchildren, Nicole Kaylor Ruppe (Andrew), Wesley Kaylor, Iris Morris Condrey (Bill) and Cindy Morris Dymond (Matt); numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and one nephew; and special caregivers with Hospice, Susan, Terry and Rhonda.

 

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service with Reverends Ethan Hester and Cy Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
