Nellie Allen Haynes, age 93, of Marion, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Magnolia Lane Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Morganton. Nellie was born on August 22, 1925 in Roanoke, North Carolina to the late Alfred Larkin Hogan and Hattie Jane Swofford Hogan. A resident of McDowell County since 1964, she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Glenwood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, George W. Allen (1977) and Thurston Guy Haynes (1997); two daughters, Paulette Allen Morgan and Linda Allen Rowland; two brothers, Thomas Hogan and John “J.C.” Hogan; and three sisters, Ruby Misenhelder, Virginia Clark and Mary Byers.
Nellie is survived by two sons, George W. Allen and wife, Jill of Texas and Bruce C. Allen and wife, Pat of Marion, North Carolina; four sisters, Gwen Mostiller and Shirley Lowery, both of Marion, North Carolina, Joyce Clark of Greensboro, North Carolina and Delores Cable of York, South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Edwin Rowland (Natalia), Frank Morgan, Jr. (Gwena), Brien Rowland (Linda), Candra Justice (Bryan), Christy Carswell (Jamie), Natica Jones (John), George Allen, Jr. (Heather), Summer Jones (Steve) and Chelsea Allen. She is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
At the request of Nellie, there will be no services held.
The family would like to express appreciation to those who assisted in providing care for Nellie, especially her granddaughter, Christy Carswell and Burke Hospice & Palliative Care.
