Under the Carolina blue skies Sunday afternoon, January 23, 2022, Monroe “Billy” Hollifield went home to be with the Lord. He was born March 14, 1960 in McDowell County to the late “Bill” E. Hollifield Sr. and Edna Marie Ray Hollifield.
He is preceded in death by his brother Pfc. Charles Wayne Hollifield, niece Tonya Marie Edwards and nephew Matthew Evan Edwards.
Monroe was owner/operator of his dump trucks, working exclusively with Carolina Grey Stone. He had worked with late owner Ronnie R. Stevens and currently Ronnies sister Vangie Peek, true friends, for thirty plus years. He ran the excavator, did most of the mechanic work and was the Demolitions man. He very much loved his work.
In Monroes spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife and friends. He also enjoyed building motorcycles or helping others to do so. He worked on many motorcycles for others along with 4-wheelers, all forms of lawn equipment and small engines. The neighborhood knew he was the man to call if something didn’t start. He will be missed. He was currently building, from ground up, a “Rat Rod” Chevy Truck, left to him by Ronnie R Stevens. He took great pride in a job well done. He was a Ford man and was proud of his 1970 Fastback Mustang. He was known to have a big heart and always willing to help when needed regardless.
“Live Free Ride Hard” was his motto.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Lynn Hollifield of 19 years, sister Carrie(David)Daniels, sister Debra(Danny)Edwards, sister Geraldene “Jeri”(Mark)Holley, brother Josh Hollifield, niece Denisa Conley, nephew David “Pudge” Daniels, nephew Brian Hollifield, nephew Alan Hollifield, nephew Travis Hollifield, niece Vanna Abernathy, niece Kala Abernathy and many great nieces and nephews with one great-great nephew.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 29th, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Beams Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Gary Greene officiating. The Family will be receiving friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m., one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
No interment to follow.
