Mildred “Millie” Phillips Ward, age 85, of Pineville, North Carolina, was ushered into the presence of her Savior on Sunday, February 02, 2020 at Atrium Health Hospital in Pineville. She was surrounded by her family. A native of Yancey County, North Carolina, born on July 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Belle McCurry Phillips.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, J.B. Phillips, Gloria Phillips, Orville Phillips and Charles Phillips.
Following retirement from the school system, she took great pride in caring for the elderly. Millie enjoyed cooking and sewing, but most of all, she loved people in general; and everyone who knew her, loved her dearly. She was a member of Nebo Crossing.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her four children, Ramona Campbell (Gary); Thomas Raymond Ward (Roemisa), Deborah Suzanne Ammons and Phillip Jamie Ward (Crystal); one brother, James L. Phillips (Mari); one sister, Sonda Sue Taylor; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 07, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion. Interment will follow at McCurry Family Cemetery in Yancey County. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
