Mildred McCauley

Mildred Early McCauley, age 95, of Old Fort, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Rosehill Retirement Community.  The daughter of the late Roy and Teresa Clark Early, she was born in McDowell County, NC on October 19, 1921.

A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Old Fort, Mildred was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother and sister who truly loved her family and her church family.  She was a teacher’s assistant and a school bus driver at Old Fort Elementary where she enjoyed working with the kids. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Grady McCauley; one daughter, Jane McCartha; two infant great grandsons, Hunter and Parker McCauley; and four brothers; Clark, Bill, George and Dan Early. 

She is survived by three sons, Steve McCauley (Pat), Wayne McCauley (Martha); and Keith McCauley (Amy); one sister, Mary Ann Crowder; seven grandchildren, Chris McCauley, Heather Blair (Dewayne), Brant McCauley, Zack McCartha (Ashley), Amber Brown (Colby), Autumn McCauley (Curtis Grant); and Derek McCartha; and twelve great grandchildren. 

A service to honor the life of Mildred will be held on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Old Fort with Pastor Jerry Lewis officiating.  Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
