Michael Steven Lonon``Steve”, age 62 of Marion, North Carolina, stepped into Glory to be with the Lord on Thursday January 26, 2023. Steve received a liver transplant in March of 2022, afterwards Steve suffered many complications, which left him spending a total of 262 days at Duke Medical University, where Steve's battle ended with him being surrounded by family. He was also cared for by multiple teams of wonderful doctors and nurses.
He was born in Marion, North Carolina on August 2, 1960, born to the late Harold Jackson Lonon, Sr. and Juanita Elliott Lonon. As a child, Steve had many cousins to make many sweet memories on holidays and hot summer afternoons. Steve graduated from McDowell High School in 1978, Wingate College, and University of Georgia where his love for UGA athletics grew. He enjoyed alumni trips to the Sugar Bowl and the Rose Bowl. Steve loved to see the world and traveled extensively via cruise lines. Steve also enjoyed summer family beach trips where he would spend his time under the beach umbrella talking with his Clover friends.
Steve spent 20 years working in the family business of Pisgah Yarn and Dye. Later in his career, Steve served as the CFO of Pisgah until the closing of the plant.
He is survived by his mother, Juanita Lonon, one brother Jack Lonon Jr. (Tammy), two sisters Rose Bradley(Gary) and Mary Schuman(Mark). He is also survived by 6 Nieces, 3 nephews who loved him very much, and 17 great nieces and nephews that brought great joy to him.
Receiving of Friends will be Saturday January 28th at Beam Funeral Service between the hours of 4:00-6:00 p.m. At the family's request; if possible wear UGA colors of red and black to the receiving of friends. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday January 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Story Memorial Presbyterian Church, 174 Shady Lane, Marion.
