Michael Earl Durkee "Pee-Wee"

Michael Earl Durkee, “Pee-Wee”, age 69, of Marion, NC, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the McDowell Hospital, unexpectedly following a brief illness, with his loving family by his side. He was the son of Warner Barney Durkee & Bessie Mae Setzer, who predeceased him.
 

Mike, worked at Drexel Heritage Furniture, for many years, until they closed. He enjoyed his job, as maintenance at Comfort Inn. His hobbies were working on cars, and recently joined the Marion Fire Department.
 

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gail Durkee; two sons, Wayne Durkee (Clorissa) and Earl Durkee (Stephanie) three grandchildren, Cody Durkee, who was affectively called “Jo” by his Paw, Brittany Smith (Kevin) and Bethany Hollifield (Joshua); four great grandchildren, Adisyn and Khole Smith, Nehemiah and Cora-Ruth Hollifield; two sisters, Brenda Benge and Dianna Sisk (Charles); and one brother, Johnny Revis. Mike is also survived by his mother-in-law, Joyce Parker; sister-in-law, Donna Cable (Tim); special cousin, Roy Mathis; and several loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church where the body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Pastor Rick Wood, Pastor Joshua Hollifield and Pastor Jonathan Cable will be officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service in Marion.

Those serving as pallbearers, Wayne Durkee, Earl Durkee, Cody Durkee, Eugene Buchanan, Timmy Holmes and Brandon Johnson.
