Michael Douglas Varnadore, 63, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Mission Hospital McDowell.
A native of South Carolina, Doug was born July 18, 1959 to the late Edward Blair Varnadore and Jean Sutton Varnadore.
He worked in carpentry and served in the United States Army. Doug was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Marion where he served as trustee, co-Sunday School teacher, and in other ministries as well. He truly enjoyed singing and had served as the church’s choir director for the last several years. Doug had a passion for hunting, fishing, and Clemson Tigers football. He loved to eat and enjoyed spending time with his dog, Shadow.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Dan Varnadore and Lavon Varnadore; and his grandmother, Arlevia Hart.
He is survived by his wife, Delores Varnadore; his daughter, Amber Nicole Varnadore; two stepchildren, Carla Renee Robinson (Roy) and Alisha Danielle Klutts (Todd); three grandchildren, Nevaeh Alyse Nieves (Alex Garcia), Kylie Rheanon Nieves, and Caiden Drake Nieves; and many step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church with Pastors Brian Bird and Michael Baity officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Gideons or the Vision Fund at First Free Will Baptist Church.
