Micah Wendell Carter, 88, of Nebo, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville.
Micah was born in McDowell County, NC on October 28, 1934, to the late Maurice S. Carter and Ola Lee Dayberry Carter. He was married to his late wife of fifty two years, Elsie Marie Gardin Carter. For three years, Micah served his country proudly in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kankakee. He also served in the United States Air Force, with whom he retired after twenty one years of dedicated service. Micah was an avid bowler and regularly participated in the Senior Bowling Games. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife and parents, Micah was preceded in death by two children, Gwendolyn and Ronnie Carter; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include six children, Perry Carter (Carolyn) of Morganton, Teresa Eisenbraun (Russ) of Marion, Tina Carter (Scott) of Morganton, Robert Carter of Morganton, Joyce Carter of Nebo, and Gary Carter of Nebo; six grandchildren, Amanda, Angela, Alaric, Karl, Heather, and Starr; a step grandson, Dwight; three great grandchildren, Rowan, Rayna, and Leland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Rev. Bobby Swaim will officiate. Burial will follow at Muddy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Nebo. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations for funeral expenses to go to Teresa Eisenbraun at 135 Toney Road, Marion, NC 28752.
