Maxine Brewer McKinney

Maxine Brewer McKinney, 72, of Bakersville passed away at her home on
September 5, 2023, after a short illness. Maxine was born on March 2,
1951, to the late Thornton Riggan Brewer and Effie Ellington Brewer.

For many years, Maxine worked at Baxter Healthcare, Mayland Armature and
Buck Stove Corp. Most recently, Maxine took great pride in her volunteer
work at Western Carolina Church in Spruce Pine. She was a true treasure,
a rare gem to her family and friends. One friend described Maxine as the
“true meaning of hospitality and love for others.”

Maxine was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Michael McKinney, and a sister Allyne Brewer
Greene.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Roger McKinney; one
son, Steven McKinney (Shelley); a granddaughter, Sophia; a grandson,
Dylan of California; two sisters, Jane Brewer Wright
(Billy-deceased) and Rose Brewer Moody (John-deceased). She is also
survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. She
leaves behind three special pets: Cooper, Molly and Puff.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of the Blue
Ridge for the loving care given to Maxine.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Western Carolina Church, in Spruce Pine. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, in Bakersville, following the service.
