Maxie Manuel Barrier, 76, of Marion, went to Heaven, Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Frye Regional Hospital in Hickory.
Max was born in McDowell County to the late William Seth Barrier and the late Bessie Mae Freeman Barrier, on July 4, 1945. Max loved the Lord and was a member of Turkey Cove Baptist Church. He was known as a kind and thoughtful man who was a real gentleman. He was a genuine man of integrity and goodness. Max enjoyed fishing, camping and most of all spending time with his family, especially going to the grandkids ballgames.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter Angie Buchanan and the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Ruth Byrd Barrier.
Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Cynthia Stamey and Deena Owens (Terry); two brothers, Dennis Barrier (Judy) and Charles Barrier; seven grandchildren, Beth Stamey (Keith), Ashley Benfield (Travis), Tyler Buchanan (Ciara), Amanda Burris (Todd), Justin Owens (Sam), Scott Owens and Jeremy Stamey along with thirteen great grandchildren, Kaden, Kaylab, Karigan, Kason, Trevor, Abby, T.J., Wyatt, Alexis, Logan, Cheyanna, Karli, Sophie and Joshua.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Turkey Cove Baptist Church with the Rev. David Edwards and the Rev. Mark Hollifield officiating. Interment will follow at The Turkey Cove Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
