Max Jonas Cook, age 75, of Marion, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 09, 2016 at the Charles George VA Medical Center’s Community Living Center in Asheville with his loving family by his side. Max had suffered many years, but now is at rest. Born in McDowell County, North Carolina on January 17, 1941, he was the son of the late Henry and Martha Johnson Cook.
Widely known through the years as an insurance salesman, Max had also sold restaurant equipment and worked for UPS. A devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Marion (his hometown), he proudly served in the United States Army having served during the Berlin crisis.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd Cook, Billy Cook and Donald Cook; and one sister, Ethel Mae Jones. Max is also preceded in death by his close friend and caregiver, Raymond William Simcox, who passed away on Sunday, October 02, 2016.
Left to cherish his memories is five children, Tammy Sanabrina (Francisco), Pamala Railey (Greg), Nicholas Cook (Jennifer), Patrick Cook and Ricky Cook (Nicole); one brother, Rev. Archie Cook (Dolly); five grandchildren and one great grandson. Max is also survived by good friend, Donna Simcox.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Upton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
