Mary Alice Owensby

Mary Alice Justice Owensby took her Heavenly flight on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville following a brief illness.  Her loving family was by her side. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Franklin and Carolyn Johnson Justice; and her son, Charles Andrew “Andy” Owensby. 

Mary graduated from Marion High School and Morganton Beauty School.  She retired from Autumn Care of Marion following 22 years of service.  Known as a wonderful cook, she was famous for her delicious fried apple pies. 

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Owensby; daughter Frances Owensby; three sisters, Frances Beckendorf (Don), Nona Rhinehardt and Judy Webb (Gary); sister-in-law, Evelyn Minish; and brother-in-law, Alden Owensby.  Mary is also survived by her special nieces and nephews; extended family and friends; and last but not least, her canine companion, Peanut.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor Gary Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of both Mission Hospital’s McDowell and Memorial Campus for the extraordinary care they provided Mary and her family.
