Mary Kathryn Compton Odom, age 92, of Asheville, passed away on Tuesday December 13, 2016 at Angel Medical Center in Franklin. The daughter of the late Marvin and Ida Macy Compton, Mary was born in Breckinridge County, Kentucky on January 27, 1924. She worked during WWII in munitions manufacturing and went on to become a practical nurse throughout her life. Mary enjoyed interior decorating and keeping up with the latest fashion trends, among her many hobbies. Throughout her life, she was entertained by watching her family grow and flourish. She was a devout follower of Christ and took great joy in reading and learning about her faith to the end of her life. She is preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, her husband, George A. Odom, Sr.; and one son, Robert Odom.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Deason (Bob), Rena Kathryn Sutton
(Alton) and Sonia Elledge (Bob); one son, George Odom, Jr.; and one sister, Dorothy Taylor Faulkner. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the
First United Methodist Church in Franklin with Rev. Margaret Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Round Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Hudlow Road in Forest City, NC with Rev Dr. Charles R. Street conducting the committal services.
