Mary Jane Thomas Austin, age 68, of the Glenwood Community, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the McDowell Hospital. Born in Bedford, Pennsylvania on February 16, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lloyd Thomas, Sr. and Viola Lenhart Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Cubbage Austin, Sr., who passed away October 28, 2006.
Known to be the life of the party, Mary enjoyed visiting the library where she had an interest in reading and she loved to raise sheltie dogs. Full of joy, she had a great spirit and an infectious laugh. Mary, for 17 years, worked at the Western Sizzlin Steakhouse on the 5-lane in Marion. One of the most important things in her life was spending time with her family. She had attended Bethel Baptist Church in Marion and Clinchfield Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Brian Foster (Jennifer) of Marion, William Cubbage Austin, Jr. (Laura) of Montclair, VA; and Cole Thomas Austin of Asheville; one brother, Robert Lloyd Thomas, Jr. of Glenwood; five grandchildren, Logan Guffey, Marianne Foster, Alliah Foster, Jaden Foster and Jackson Austin; and two great grandsons, Ravage Guffey and Lelan Rhom. She is also survived by her special friend, Peggy Nix.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Jimmy Upton officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
