Mary Grant, age 87, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Rose Hill Retirement Community. A native of Dorchester County, South Carolina, she was born on May 4, 1930 to the late Joseph and Emily Sillivant Kenyon.
Mary was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church for forty-four years where she served in several capacities. She was a member of the United Methodist women since the age of nineteen. She also retired from McDowell County Schools where she served as secretary at Glenwood Elementary School for many years. Mary also was a volunteer at McDowell Hospital. She loved traveling and was an avid Clemson Tiger fan.
Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of fifty-six years, Ramsay Grant of the home; a son, Mark Ramsay Grant of Marion; one sister, Evelyn Bradley of Savannah, Georgia; one brother, Joseph Kenyon III of Georgetown, South Carolina.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mary will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Reverends Warren Owens and Michael Holder officiating. Interment will take place after the service at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary’s memory to the First United Methodist Church, 176 Robert Street, Marion, North Carolina 28752 or Care Partners/McDowell Hospice, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, North Carolina 28803.
