Martha "Weezy" Louise Swafford

Martha Louise Swafford “Weezy”, age 75, of Nebo, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord on Friday, April 19, 2019 at her residence.  Born in McDowell County on October 12, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Dorothy Warren Christopher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Swafford (2005); one sister, Joanne Dills; one brother, Carl Wilburn Christopher, Jr.; and two nephews, Carl Douglas Dills and Carl Eugene Christopher. 

Martha enjoyed working in her garden before her health began to decline, doing her word searches, watching General Hospital and loved to talk on the phone with her family and friends.  She was a member of Solid Rock Free Will Baptist Church.

Martha, who was known by her family as “Weezy”, is survived by a special nephew that was like her own son, Kris Higgins (Kayla); niece, Gail Dills; special nephew, James Pate (Donna) and their children, Aurora and Andrew; one sister-in-law, Rita Christopher; and niece, Karen Patton (Jonathan) and their children, David, Joey and Alissa.  Martha was also survived by her canine “fur baby’, Holly.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Terry Cheek officiating.  Interment will follow at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Boyd.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
