Martha Lucy Cauthen

Martha Lucy Smith Cauthen, 81, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital.

She was born in Massachusetts on July 15, 1939 to the late Martin and Marie Gaudet Smith.

Martha delighted in the goat farm she and Hy had for many years and her many other animals. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved gardening. She especially loved tending to her flowers, though she hated bees. She was active in many civic groups, including Hospice, the Pilot Club, and the Christian Women’s Club. A member of Story Memorial Presbyterian Church, Martha was a good and faithful servant of the Lord.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Hydrick Cauthen.

Survivors include her children, Debbie Ishikura (Darryl), Cindy Byas (Gary), Mark Cauthen (Laura), and Eric Cauthen (Kim); eight grandchildren, Ryan, Heather, Dustin, Derek, Melody, Madison, Garrett, and Andrew; and seven great grandchildren, Tuie, Ella, Shyla, Ivy, Fern, Vincent, and Heidi.

A celebration of Martha’s life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
