Martha Ann Hemphill Tate

Martha Ann Hemphill Tate “Aunt Bootsie,” of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Caldwell UNC Health Care.

Having just celebrated her 88^th birthday, she was born on April 24, 1934 in McDowell County to the late Luther and Hessie Lynch Hemphill.

Martha retired from Broyhill after many years. She was a hard worker who enjoyed cooking, playing cards, fishing, traveling, and working with her flowers in her yard. Martha will be remembered as a tough lady who was one of a kind. Her family and friends meant the world to her.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gilbert Tate; two daughters, Debra Hemphill Moore and Anita Francine Moore; her son-in-law, Thomas Moore; and several siblings.

Survivors include her daughters, Gloria Carson and Valerie Moore; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and her special sister and best friend, Katie Logan.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. James Wilfong officiating.
