On the morning of Saturday, January 23, 2021, Mark Lewis Tate, Sr. “Big Mark”, age 53, formerly of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away at his residence. The son of Hubert Rutherford of Nebo and the late Ellen Elaine Tate, he was born in Marion, North Carolina on January 09, 1968.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one brother, Nickey Dwan Tate.
It always did Mark’s heart good to bring love and making those around him laugh; and working with his hands to help. A member of Trinity Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he always wanted to be loved just for him, and not to be judged by what people thought, said or saw, because Mark was an original champion. To God be Glory.
He is survived by, in addition to his father, six children, Noah Kane Stroud, Mark Lewis Tate, Jr., Oneishan Gabrielle Tate (and their mother, Cynthia Goode), Nicholas Wayne Tate and Kashlyn Tate and Paris Tate; one God son, Zariahan Goode; two grandchildren, Marvel Tate and Jetson Tate; one granddaughter on the way; and one God grandson, Genesis Goode. Mark is also survived by four siblings, Victor Hubert Tate, Jr. (Sebrina J.), Ann Washington (Karriem), Austin Andrews and Destiney Tate; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Rev. James E. Williams officiating. Interment will follow at St. Johns AME Church Cemetery in Nebo. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
