Margie Harris Cox, born May 5, 1932, passed away on June 1, 2024, at the age of 92, following a brief and sudden illness at Mission Hospital.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Cox of Marion; her parents, Frank and Flora Reel Harris of Marion; and her sister, Barbara Taylor (Pat) of Mt. Holly.
She is survived by her son, Eugene Cox (Jackie) of Raleigh, and her grandchildren, Dr. Emily Cox of Chapel Hill and Christopher Cox of Cary. She also leaves behind her nephews, Brian Taylor (Regina) of Mt. Holly and Joey Taylor (Frances) of Bessemer City, as well as her dear cousins, Alma Bartlett and Paul Bartlett (Lynn) of Marion.
Margie grew up in Montford Cove and attended both Glenwood and Sugar Hill schools. She was a devoted member of East Marion United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women.
After working for 35 years at American Thread, Margie retired in 1990 and enjoyed a fulfilling retirement. She spent her time with her beloved grandchildren, reading, traveling, socializing with friends, and indulging in her passion of genealogy.
In the last year and a half, following the passing of her husband, Margie resided at Mountain Ridge Health and Wellness. There, she made many friends, enjoyed bingo, and received excellent care from the staff.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
