On the evening of Monday, May 17, 2021, Mrs. Margie Lou Toney Atkins, 81, of Marion, North Carolina, went home to be with Jesus.
A native of McDowell County, Margie was born May 05, 1940 to the late John Taylor Toney and Dorothy Mae Patterson Toney.
Margie worked at both the Marion General and McDowell Hospitals for over 15 years without missing a single day of work. If you knew her, you knew she loved her Jesus and had a strong desire that everyone come to know Him. She was a member of Glenwood Independent Baptist Church.
Margie was a very generous lady who would give anything to anybody. She will be remembered as the best mother in the world who raised her sister’s children as her own. She was known as “Mammoo” to many. Margie, who never said an unkind word, had a heart of gold, and she will be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Atkins; three daughters, Linda Renee Atkins, Tammy Michelle Brown, and Pamela Annette Allison; and four sisters, Jewell Johnson, Opal Patrick, Tootsie Harklerode, and Mildred Toney.
Those left to cherish her precious memories are her two children, Carroll Wayne Atkins (Frankie) and Lisa Diane Kirkland (David); a special daughter, Joy Harklerode; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastors Dennis Hensley, T-Jay Addison, and Daniel McMahan officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. A private committal service will be held at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
