Margaret Stephens Vaughn, age 90, of Marion, formally of Chesnee SC, while surrounded by her loved ones, passed away on Monday October 10, 2016 at Autumn Care of Marion. The daughter of the late John and Eva Barker Stephens, she was born in Greenville, South Carolina on June 24, 1926.
Margaret, when she wasn’t tending to her flowers, enjoyed walking and watching the birds. She will be remembered for the sweet spirit she had, but most of all, the loving smile she always shared.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lee Vaughn; and two brothers and two sisters.
Margaret is survived by one daughter, Teresa Smith of Marion, North Carolina; one son, Steve Vaughn (Lorraine) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Allison Styles (Keith), Luzette Anderson (Russell) and Trent Vaughn; two great grandchildren, Kassie and Piper Styles; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Clinchfield Baptist Church in Marion with Rev. Terry Roach officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
For those who are unable to attend the funeral service, a graveside service will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Memorial Gardens in Chesnee, South Carolina.
Flowers are acceptable and appreciated. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Vaughn’s memory are asked to consider, Autumn Care of Marion’s Activity Fund, 1264 Airport Road, Marion, North Carolina 28752.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Hospice of McDowell and to Autumn Care of Marion, 100 hall, for the 3 years of loving and compassionate care they provided for Margaret and her family during this time.
