Margaret Elliott McFadden, age 96, of Marion, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at her residence with her loving family by her side. Born in McDowell County on August 17, 1921, Margaret was the daughter of the late W.P. Elliott, Sr. and Emma Hensley Elliott.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John David McFadden who passed away November 22, 2008; a grandson, Jared McFadden; a son-in-law, Eugene Hogan; and brothers, Bill, Mack and Norman Elliott.
Margaret was the last charter member of Story Memorial Presbyterian Church. She became a member at the age of twelve and remained active until the last several months of her life, when she became unable to attend. She taught school for over thirty years at West Marion Elementary School. Margaret enjoyed making beautiful quilts, loved yard work, flowers, cooking and line dancing.
Left to cherish her memory are five children, Rose Mary Blankenship (Jerry) of Monroe, Virginia, Susan Condrey (Jim), John Elliott McFadden (Rhonda), Angie Collier (Jeff) and Barbara Fensterer (Bill) all of Marion, North Carolina; one brother, Neal Elliott of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sisters, Marianne Cowan and Juanita Lonon both of Marion, North Carolina. Also surviving Mrs. McFadden are nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. A funeral service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Story Memorial Presbyterian Church with Reverends Matt Stevens and Bill Dages officiating. Interment will take place after the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank granddaughters Beth, Angi, Iris and Cheyanne; also, family friends and care givers Donna Stone and Kelsey Washburn for their care and dedication.
The siblings wish to thank their sister Susan and her husband Jim Condrey for all their love and devotion helping with their mother.
