On the afternoon of Sunday, May 31, 2020, Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Cooper Holtsclaw, age 78 of Marion, departed from this world and was greeted by her Lord and Savior into her eternal home while at the Hospice of The Carolina Foothills inpatient unit in Forest City. The daughter of the late Fred Cooper and Ester Magnus Settlemeyer Buff, she was born in McDowell County on May 05, 1942.
A cancer survivor for over 15 years, Margaret enjoyed cooking and spending her leisure time reading. She was retired from Collins & Aikman following thirty-three years of service. A loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was a devout Christian and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, are her beloved husband of sixty-two years, Clarence Lyle Holtsclaw, who passed away on September 17, 2018; and her son, Richard Lyle Holtsclaw.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her three daughters, Pamela Corpening, Vicky Holtsclaw, and Tina Marsh (Mike); as well as nine grandchildren, Shauna Holmes (Jeff), Nicolas McCurry (Tori), Tori Corpening, Tara Corpening, Joshua Corpening, Anna Corpening, Amber Brown, Autumn Grant (Curtis), Laurel Marsh (Jon), Lucas Marsh. She also leaves behind ten great grandchildren, Jackson Holmes, Hudson Holmes, Lydia McCauley, Sydney Strode, Vincent Smith, Paris Forney, Presley Forney, London Grant, Lukah Grant, and Harper Marsh.
A graveside service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 03, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved late husband Clarence.
