Mallie Robert “Bob” Washburn, 85, of Marion went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2024 at UNC Blue Ridge in Morganton.
Bob was born in McDowell County on October 28, 1938 to the late Horace Washburn and the late Eunice Hinton Washburn.
Bob grew up in the Woodlawn Community where he was a volunteer fireman for the Woodlawn Fire Department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Bob also taught Sunday School at Garden Creek Baptist Church. He was known as a kind hearted, giving person who loved his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Odell Willingham Washburn; his sister, Faye Washburn Crosby and two brothers, Ray and Jerry Washburn.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vera Morgan Washburn; his children, Robin Washburn Buchanan (Randy) and Robert “Hoss” Washburn, Jr.; a stepdaughter, Kim Carson; his siblings, Dan Washburn (Judy), Lucille Washburn Brown, Joan Washburn Guthrie, Sherri Washburn Metcalf (Monte) and Pat Washburn Davis; five grandchildren, Jeremy Robertson (Anna), Hollie Beck (Doug), Michael Robert Washburn, Ashley Harwood (Stacy) and Katherine Washburn; and a number of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service with the Rev. Dean Owenby officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:30 until 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
